Edgar Kaufmann Jr, who was a prolific art collector and director of the Industrial Design Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York found a fast friend in Finn Juhl. He was so intrigued by Finn Juhls worldview on furniture design that he invited the designer to the United States. The same Art Collector then wrote an article on Finn Juhl, which was then later picked up by Mr. Hollis Baker, the owner of Baker Furniture. Finn Juhl was a Danish architect, interior and industrial designer, most known for his furniture design. He was one of the leading figures in the creation of “Danish design” in the 1940s, having won many accolades for his revolutionary furniture designs. Of them, the most notable few would be the Chieftain Chair, FJ Sideboard, Poet Sofa, 46 Sofa and the France Lounge Chair. He is highly credited as one of the few designers among other iconic designers such as Borge Mogensen and Hans Wegner, who made “Danish Modern” known throughout the world.
